Hi guys, newbie here. Searched through google looking for logical and intellectual discussions.

I come from a non-practicing Christian family, until I attended a retreat when I was in my 3rd High. Then I served there for now a decade, and have since been very engaged in it. With that said, I've worked for a religious non-profit organization for a few years, and was once very active in the Born Again community in CCF. It was in those years that I've seen that Christians don't act the way they preach - Christians talking against Catholics, Christians say that there is no need to redeem ourselves because Jesus has already forgiven us upon his death and yet they condemn all the other religions because they don't believe in Jesus. That priests were merely "sinners" in their own veils as well, so why will I pledge my "spirituality" to such people as well.

So at first, it was the inconsistencies of Catholicism. And now I guess it's more that I am simply more hungry for truth and am willing to disregard the investments I've made in my religious life. Kaya natutuwa ako sa statement ni Gnwyr. Tama yan. Improve your argument, add to that, bring evidence as well.

I hope to have intellectual discussions here. I have no time for bashing, nor practice the ignorant hatred that I've seen when I was on the "other side". My motivation is simply to learn more about the truth, and how much I can learn to simply improve myself, and how I can contribute to the humanity I am thankful to be a part of.

Because I refuse to worship a false god who loves war, incest, and genocide! A malevolent tyrant who only existed on a fairytale book that is made out of lies and inconsistencies...

I do not believe in a God because of the lack of proof and evidence. Furthermore, the pain, suffering, blindness and ignorance religion brings pushed me further to deny the existence of any deity.

I am not delusional. I don’t believe in fairy tales. I don’t believe in every little thing that has something to do with angels, gods, saints, martyrs, heroes, demons, monsters, vampires, etc….

This kind of thinking keeps pulling my sleeves down.
My wife, sister, father mother don’t like my ideas and violently opposes it.
It’s painful since they are my family and I love them. I don’t want to argue and end up hurting them.

It is hard to be an atheist.
It was like I am being persecuted every single day of my life with the people around me. But I am thankful that I'm not the only one.
The big problem being an atheist is that believers automatically thinks that a person without god is evil . It’s just funny how they judge atheists.

Why am I an atheist? Why Despite of being opposed with 3/4s of people I know?
Why am I still an atheist? Why am I still an atheist despite of this peer/family/media/world pressure?
The answer: Logic, Individualism, Freedom, Reason, and many more. I have millions of reasons why one should be an atheist.

It's harder to be an atheist than to have a god.
I would like to salute all ATHEIST out there!!

Just a simple request though, please type the word " g-o-d " with a small letter "g".

Thank you

There are different kinds of truths for different kinds of people. There are truths appropriate for children; truths that are appropriate for students; truths that are appropriate for educated adults; and truths that are appropriate for highly educated adults, and the notion that there should be one set of truths available to everyone is a modern democratic fallacy. It doesn't work.

Just like priests, bishops, cardinals, popes, and indeed theologians are all born atheist, I too was born atheist. Yes, my dear reader, you are born an atheist too. If you are unable to see this piece of truth, please do not blame me; blame instead your blind faith. No baby has a religion. No baby has faith in God. No baby comes out of mother’s womb a Catholic, or a Muslim, or a Jew, or a Buddhist, or a Hindu. We are all born free and then indoctrinated.

This is a major blunder. Atheism is a claim that there is no god. Babies make no claim of that. They are agnostic of god. No one is born as an atheist.

I'm an atheist simply because there are far MORE RAVING LUNATICS, INCOMPETENT IDIOTS, HOLY BUTCHERS IMBECILLES, HOLY WARS, MASS GENOCIDES AS WELL AS SUICIDES with religious people than with those who are not.
The problem with this is that this is an argument for the negative:
So why not be a pantheist? Or an agnostic? Or a panpsychist?
To adapt a certain worldview or belief system, one has to have a positive argument for that belief system.
To be a real atheist, one has to have a positive argument for atheism, not just a negative argument for other worldviews.

New to the forum but I've been an atheist for the past 15 years. The why's of it has been eloquently and passionately described by previous posters.

I'm not an "activist" though. I don't force my way of thinking to other people. I still practice the religious traditions that we grew up with - I still stand as godfather to my friends children when asked (even though they know that I'm an atheist). I got married in a Christian ceremony. I attend weddings not just the reception. And I really don't mind. As the saying goes, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do."

Look around. Sadistic isn't it? Cancer, calamities, conflicts, crime.

Neither glorious sunrise and romantic sunsets or the smell of roses could provide relief. I did not ask for this life.

"Seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you"

Many in this predominantly christian country have heard that, and yet many more have also heard this familiar euphemism...

"We'll give you a call"

I think, therefore I am.

I am an atheist because I GREW UP and I have a BRAIN. I am an atheist because NOT ONE RELIGIOUS PERSON CAN GIVE ME A LOGICAL PROOF THAT GOD EXISTS.

well, i can only say it takes the simplest logical mind (if not intellect) to be able to determine that there is no god, or at least, he/she/it is irrelevant to our existence.

In my case, my parents and grandparents were reminded of eternal punishment in hell if they did not have me, as a child, baptized a Catholic. I ask: where was then my so-called free will to have chosen the kind of religion I should have wished to embrace for myself? At age 18, after having been expelled out of high-school for asking far too many religious questions, I began to extricate myself up and gradually out of Christian values and beliefs by entertaining the case against God - atheism. The question, “Who made me? cannot be answered, since it immediately suggests the further question, Who made God? If, however, evidences were discovered that as a matter of fact a Goddess made God, I will immediately drop my atheism down the tube.

We all live like parasites on a speck of dust in an infinity of worlds. One million planets the size of earth can fit inside the sun. But 500 of our suns can be swallowed up in one small gulp by a bigger star called “Betelgeuse.” If it were true that a God created man in his own image and likeness, then God must be a microscopic perfection himself but lost in self-admiration. In the meantime, if God created everything, including space and time, where was God located before he created space, and when was it before he created time?

As a devout atheist, I believe that the conquest of fear is the beginning of wisdom, as in the search for the truth, and as in the works needed for the good life, - especially the one inspired by love and guided by knowledge. No doubt, in the end, death will conquer us all; but if we must die, let us die sober, and not drunk with religious lies.

In the meantime, as an atheist, it is my duty to declare that: Atheists are not objects to hate, but people like you to love. The question is not what, but who are the atheists?

Atheists accept that heaven is something for which we should work on now – here on earth – for all of mankind to enjoy.

Atheist accept that we can get no help through prayer but that we must find within ourselves the inner conviction and strength to meet life, to understand the world rationally, and to enjoy it peacefully.

Atheists accept that only in knowledge of one’s self can we live the life of understanding and fulfillment. Therefore we seek to know fellow-human beings rather than to know supernatural beings.

Atheists know that a hospital should be built instead churches and cathedrals.

Atheists know that a deed must be done instead of prayer said.

Atheist strive for involvement in life and not escape into death. We want diseases conquered, poverty defeated, and war eliminated. We want humankind to love and understand mankind. We want an ethical way of life. We accept that we cannot rely on a god nor channel action into prayer or wish for an end of our troubles in the hereafter. Atheists accept that we are – in a great sense – our brother’s keepers in that we are first, keepers of our own lives; that we are responsible people, and that the job is here and the time is now.

I would like to give an advice to my fellow free thinkers, that we are a small collective group of people who are free from the bonds of any organized religion. In this order always think and put in mind that as much as we deny the existence of a god, we must also try not to start an argument that would insult a believers personal emotions-sic verbal attacks coming from us would deliver a negative impact to those whom we want to help.

Being an atheist means(in my opinion) that we are here to HELP others be free from the wrong teachings of their know theological hoolabalus.

I honestly have been receiving threats from religious organizations about my activities of giving out lectures and symposiums about religion, and everytime I receive such messages, I feel pity for them, knowing that their line of reasoning is really clouded by their conviction and "blindedness".

To my UTOL's who'd be reading this (atheist or not), the most important and basic reason why we exist is we are capable of helping others and our ourselves in improving. That is the law of UNIVERSAL MORALITY.

Because I cannot believe in something as mystical as a god.
I live by logic and reason; to the point where my stomach literally aches when I am given the option to believe in "blind-faith."
I'm an atheist for the reason that a theist is theist; it is what we redeem as truth.

It is what makes sense to me.
