Just joined this site...having been married to a Filipina for 8 years it has been a hard fought battle to open her mind...which I believe I have done but the rest of her family is a lost cause and therefore typical Filipino (except maybe the sister)...they have been corrupted by the religions of their culture.

It must be a hard slog for you guys to be such a minority in this place...it is hard enough for me to protect my kids from the corruption that is religion, but to live here must be a constant drain on your mental resources...when I am here it just makes me want to scream and try to wake up the people around me and for them to see that god is not providing for them. They should be venerating OFWs as they provide for more Filipinos than any god has ever done.

Luckily we come back only for holidays and I can explain away the family's superstitions to my kids as beliefs of peasant farmers and blinded city folk.

yes, it's really hard at first and even now but less so. when you fight for it, every inch of territory gained is an inch of hard fought space of freedom. it's the space i need to keep my own sanity so i am now very protective of my turf. i still meet other opinions head on but i think i now usually have the upper hand as i have armed myself with reason.
