FREEdom

Posted by Euri on Sep 29th, 2007

You see, God is a great marketing strategist. Of course, because He is God. Since he created everything your eyes could see, everything your nose can smell, everything your ears could hear, everything your skin could feel and everything your hands would touch. To make it short, damn everything! And because he is such an omni-everything, thinking of a good marketing plan is as easy as kicking a lifeless stone lying around your path. And so he thought of a good plan to promote himself and he gave us this thing called “freedom.” (I would like to emphasize the word “FREE.”) This “freedom” gives us the ability to choose. We can choose weather to believe in Him or not. (I would like to point out that not believing doesn’t mean denying.) But of course, like any other product promotion, it has a catch.

OFWs as Export Commodities

Posted by kapanalig_sa_wala on Sep 10th, 2006

Japan and the Philippines signed a free-trade agreement. Its most important feature is the provisions on the movement of labor. Rather than bringing the jobs home, this fake Arroyo administration sees OFWs like myself as export commodity. When I was to leave for Tokyo last June, the immigration officer held me until I produced a POEA permit. I don’t usually get an OCW permit because of lack of time and to avoid the hassles of dealing with the bureaucracy. But if I didn’t get the permit, I had to pay for travel tax and terminal fees for me and my family. Last June, I had to pay for three people, but still I had to go back to the POEA because the immigration officer wouldn’t let me leave, which I could not afford. At the POEA desk, I had to argue with the guy on the desk because he was not very quick in processing my request, my flight was close to boarding and he was not in a hurry at all pausing to listen to his colleagues gossip. After getting my POEA permit, I went back to the desk where I earlier paid for my travel tax then terminal fees if I could get my money back (1,600 + 550 for three people or about 6,500 pesos). They said I can only get my refund from the main POEA office, which I suppose is the one in EDSA corner Ortigas avenue, and which is like saying: good luck dude. We always have to pay dearly for our government’s inefficiencies. After going back to the immigration officer with the permit, she had to give me a lecture about the importance of getting the POEA for my own protection from my employer. I told her I work for a very good company, which is a fact. This company has done me more good than any of our government agencies, save the public school system. (I attended a public elementary school.) She insisted that I was making a mistake by not availing myself of the POEA permit, that if in case problems erupt in the country where I work, I will be helped by OWWA because I am registered. BIG DEAL. The war in Lebanon highlighted what kind of help I shall be expecting if and when that actually happens. The OWWA didn’t have the funds nor the muscle for such a situation. Our govenrment is so weak and ineffective when dealing with events outside our country, and yet, one of the main push of this government is to continue to commoditize its citizen, to deploy to all corners of the world. If penguins hire househelps and nannies, we’d be in Antarctica.

Our government negotiated the free trade agreement with Tokyo which includes the provision for the deployment of nurses and caregivers. The pact is about free trade. We get electronics, in exchange, the Japanese gets our nurses among other commodities. Fair trade?

Islamofascism’s Useful Idiots

Posted by tekton12 on Aug 10th, 2006

Why does Islamofascism attract the Left? This has puzzled me for some time. Leftists/Marxists are supposed to be secular-minded, yet they have become the most vociferous defenders of the most virulent, reactionary, superstitious ideology known to man which is Islamofascism. Notice how leftist websites routinely praise Palestinian suicide bombers as “freedom fighters”. Notice how they consistently side with Islamists in any conflict the latter is embroiled in with Israel or the US. Leftist islamophilia is a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Or it may just be sheer opportunism masquerading as concern for the underdog.

In the Philippines, leftist organizations and pseudo-intellectuals like Walden Bello and Randy David predictably ally themselves with the Bangsamoro movement at the expense of non-Muslim Filipinos. These Filipino leftists argue that Mindanao is Bangsamoro homeland that was snatched by Christian settlers from the north (how similar a refrain this is to the Jewish settlers-grabbed-Palestinian lands tune!). They advocate the return of these lands to their “rightful owners”. Funny thing is, many of these leftist pseudo-intellectuals live in Manila where they are shielded from the armed turmoil in far-away Mindanao. They don’t own property in the south. They don’t suffer from the kidnapping, pillaging and banditry; it is the non-Muslim Filipinos in Mindanao who have to deal with these threats on a daily basis. Continue Reading »

Duh? Atheism List?

Posted by kapanalig_sa_wala on Mar 26th, 2006

The Pinoy atheists are in a cunundrum. A poll was conducted to determine if the atheism list should rid itself of a believer who has made it a point to make it his turf and think it’s his right to defend his belief when it’s being attacked by atheists. Does that make sense? But it seems it does to some atheists if we are to take the result of the poll as an indication. Continue Reading »

WONDERS OF THEOCRACY: AFGHAN MAN CHARGED WITH DEATH PENALTY FOR CONVERTING TO CHRISTIANITY

Posted by beast_686 on Mar 24th, 2006

Every so often, especially in the past few months, we read about American fundamentalists decrying the secularization of their governments.

From signing bills against gay marriages, to the signing of an anti-abortion bill in Southern Dakota, it seems that our good ole “brothers in Christ” are slowly and surely driving their beloved superpower nation into the Stone Ages.

Now, if a theocracy is what these morons are looking for, they need to look no further than Afghanistan, where Islamic law is a standard legislative code for every citizen.

(Abdur Rahman: Death sentence for converting to Christianity)

An Afghan man, Abdur Rahman, has a death sentence hanging over his head for……..hold your breath, ladies and gentlemen……… converting from his original religion, Islam, to Christianity.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen. Converting to Christianity is such a grievous crime that death in the gallows would be seem as “fitting” for the infidelic act! Continue Reading »

Earth’s Viral Infection

Posted by element_115x on Mar 20th, 2006

Genesis 1:28 “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” - A recipe for disaster!

Has our species become a sort of ‘quasi-viral’ threat to the world? Our home planet has, from a few decades back up to now has shown signs of trouble in its natural ability to support/sustain its continually multiplying ‘caretakers’, along with a host of flora and fauna it co-inhabits with. Atheists Are Evil

Posted by kapanalig_sa_wala on Mar 18th, 2006

As an atheist, I have had my share of being demonized by believers, specially the holier-than-thou born again types. Just because I do not share their belief and by some magical twist of born-again-Christian logic, they see me as a person who only wanted to do what I wanted to do - which is implied as evil things - without having to be responsible for my action. Never mind that the accusers don’t know me at all, nor have even met me in person. What they can conclude, is purely through my chance meetings with them in online forums and chatrooms. Is there any tinge of justification to their accusations? Continue Reading »

Christians In Atheist Forums = Sheep To Slaughter?

Posted by beast_686 on Mar 17th, 2006

As an online atheist, I have often encountered various Christians in atheist forums. For some morbid reason, perhaps due to their urgent need to proselytize to heathens or a sexual urge to masturbate their deities in question, they would register, sometimes disguising themselves as liberal Christians or even atheists, only to unleash their mumbo jumbos in the forum.

Most of these goons are complete morons, and fall into two basic camps: Either they come in to expound on their extra-terrestrial deities through the rather obscure concepts of dual physicality or some compounded bullshit, or they simply just use the forum as a pulpit to deride all atheists, reiterating what their predecessors have been uttering for two millennia: Infidels and non-believers will go to hell. Open Letter to the United Nations

OPEN LETTER TO THE UNITED NATIONS

Our world is wracked with malevolence and embroiled in violence not because of too little, but because of too much religion. Indeed, religion has always been and still is in the business of multiplying hate rather than be with the efforts of dividing peace and love and grace for the human race.

The Christians do not understand their own Bible. The Muslims do not understand their own Koran. In fact, if both believers took the trouble to read and understand each other’s holy book, they would learn that their scriptures are based upon older sources written by primitives who were more at home with horoscope but not the telescope or the microscope. Sacred books should be about dignity of the human community, and not about contrary beliefs that inspires enmity or hostility. Continue Reading »
